;PCG-SCMP Autumn Meeting / ISIS Crystallography Users Meeting 2008

The Physical Crystallography Group – Structural and Condensed Matter Physics Group Autumn meeting will take place at the Cosener’s House, Abingdon, 6-7th November 2008 (lunchtime-to-lunchtime), in conjunction with the ISIS Crystallography Users Meeting.

The meeting is themed “Neutron Diffraction and Complementary Techniques”. It will feature a programme of talks on topics including high pressure crystallography, solid state NMR, inelastic neutron scattering, muon techniques, computational methods, in-situ Raman spectroscopy and conductivity measurements. An update on the current status of the ISIS crystallography suite, including developments on Target Station II will be presented. The lectures will comprise both an educational element and state-of-the-art science; as such, the meeting will be of interest to audiences ranging from PhD students to experienced researchers.

Confirmed speakers include:

Martin Dove (Cambridge): ''Computational Methods in Support of Neutron Scattering''

Steve Hull (ISIS): ''Conductivity Measurements in the Neutron Beam''

Sue Kilcoyne (Salford): ''Muon Spin Relaxation and Rotation''

Malcolm Levitt (Southampton): ''Solid State NMR: A Complementary Technique to Crystallography''

Lars Lundegaard (Edinburgh): ''High Pressure X-Ray Diffraction: New Results using Single Crystal Techniques on 'Powder' Diffraction Data''

Timmy Ramirez-Cuesta (ISIS): ''Inelastic Neutron Scattering''

Physical Crystallography Group (PCG) & Structural Condensed Matter Physics (SCMP)

The PCG of the British Crystallographic Association (BCA) and the SCMP of the Institute of Physics (IoP) are two names for the same group. The aim of the group is to promote and support physical crystallography in all its current forms. We organise meetings and workshops, award a thesis prize every year and a lecture prize biannually. There is also limited funding to provide student bursaries to help towards the cost of attending international conferences.

The aim of this website it to provide information to our members and hopefully attract new members from the community. The site is in the form of a ‘wiki’, which allows users of the site to add their own content and comment on others. In this way it is hope it will be a dynamic home for the physical crystallography community.

News

The winner of the Physical Crystallography Prize 2008 is Laurent Chapon (ISIS).

The winner of the PCG-SCMP Thesis Prize 2008 is Lars Lundegaard (University of Edinburgh).

Lars will be presenting some of his work at the PCG – SCMP Group Autumn 2008 meeting (see above)
